About three years ago, I found myself at a personal
and professional crossroads. I had advanced degrees, practical experience,
lots of energy, and everything (one would think) that would prepare
me to step into something new. Almost. I had a sense that I needed
a coach to help me move forward and focus my energy, but not a clue
how to find one I would feel confident working with. That's where

A few years ago, while in my mid-forties, I found
myself facing new and very difficult challenges. I had been a very
successful entrepreneur having started a business at the age of
16 and growing it for 30 years. After a long and traumatic marriage
to an abusive spouse, I had finally accepted the need to get a divorce
and to get myself and my 2 young children separated from their mother.
As a single parent I needed to provide a stable, safe and nurturing
home for my children. Running the business usually took 60 hours
per week. The responsibilities of being a full-time parent took
away from the business and I slowly became overwhelmed with the
challenges of running the business and caring for my children as
a single parent. My business suffered. I owed almost $2 million
in personal and business debt and I was on the verge of having my
house foreclosed upon going into bankruptcy.
Over time, I became over-stressed and experienced severe depression
and anxiety. I developed insomnia and for over a year I regularly
got only 2-3 hours of sleep per night. My body trembled and I experienced
unrelenting rushes of adrenaline in my legs and arms. I had extreme
difficulty functioning, let alone running the business.
I realized that I needed to make some changes but didn’t know
how to get out of the predicament I was in. I couldn’t quit
because I had 2 children depending on me. I couldn’t stand
the thought of us being homeless.
One of my employees had found The Coach Connection on the Internet
and suggested I call them. I did call and spoke with Bill Dueease
He was a very good listener and I felt that he really understood
me and my situation and he said he had many coaches and that he
would let me talk to 3 coaches that he thought would be good for
me. I told him that I thought I needed a male coach who understood
business and could help me with” guy” issues. ( I was
still somewhat “gun shy” with women after having a long
and traumatizing relationship with an abusive wife.)
Bill gave me 3 coaches to interview. One of them was a woman. To
my surprise, I chose the woman. She told me that she would work
with me and that she thought she could help me get my life back
on track. I had been so beaten down at that point, that I didn’t
think that I was even able to do perform a job like being a clerk
at a Seven-Eleven store.
I spoke with my coach several times a month by phone. The first
month was spent explaining my situation and coming up with what
I wanted my life to be like. In fact, we came up with the term “reinventing”
myself and my life.
My coach urged me to “dream” of what I wanted to be and
what I would like to have my life to look like. I was not able to
do this in the beginning. After a few weeks, I was able to think
of an ideal life and qualities and accomplishments for myself. However,
I did not believe that it was truly possible for me. I did realize
however, that it was a major accomplishment for me to even be able
to imagine a better life.
I set goals in various areas of life such as family, business, financial,
health, spiritual and relationship goals. My coach urged me to keep
making my goals bigger that I was able to imagine by myself. It
was remarkably difficult for me to visualize a better, let alone
a “great” life for myself. I was so limited in my vision
and imagination by the depression, anxiety and effects of long term
sleep deprivation.
After establishing my goals, my coach worked with me to realize
some of them. It felt so good to have an understanding and knowledgeable
person guiding me through a phase in my life that I had not experienced
before….and didn’t know how to handle. Every month, I
made progress and I started to feel better. She gave me assignments
and I would do them. I did them because I committed to her and to
myself that I would be “coachable” and follow her guidance.
I know that I would have not taken many of those small steps toward
“reinventing” myself and my life if I had tried to do
it by myself without a guide and someone that I was accountable
to.
I made dramatic progress and slowly turned myself and my world around.
Every week I looked forward to the call from my coach. It felt good
to receive the support and guidance. It felt even better to see
the progress I was making each week and each month. After a little
more than a year of coaching, most of the time on our calls were
spent on “socializing” and “chit chatting” about
minor issues. My coach told me that she that she thought her mission
had been completed because I had accomplished ALL of the goals I
had established for myself. I knew she was right. It was hard to
believe that I had accomplished all of those goals that a year earlier,
I felt were “pie-in-the –sky” unattainable.
Thanks to my coach, I truly was able to “reinvent” myself
and my life. I sold my business of 32 years and became a real estate
investor. Now, my work hours are much more flexible. My earnings
are many times what they used to be. I expect to be able to retire
in a few years. Four weeks ago I married my “soul mate”
whom I’ve know for over 25 years and rediscovered a few years
ago. Life is so much better now for me, my children and everyone
I contact.
I am so grateful to The Coach Connection, Bill Dueease and my coach.
As Bill told me the first time I talked to him on the phone, a coach
has a unique relationship and can accomplish things for me that
can’t be done by friends or family. The coach had only my objectives
in mind and no other agenda. With the confidence of knowing that,

TCC was a truly great place to seek solutions to my goals. I loved

The best thing about TCC was getting to select
a coach from many good coaches. I really enjoyed the process of

I came to the coaching experience at a time when
both my business and my personal life were showing new potential,
yet I felt as if there were invisible walls that were holding me
back from progress in both these areas of my life. I was sure that

I was at a strange place in my life a few years

Coaching with TCC made me take a look at myself

I learned a tremendous amount about myself. I
thought I was very self-aware to start with yet the “assessments”
I’d taken in the past just captured a portion of my personality,

I highly recommend Bill Dueease and his excellent
Coach Connection. I was able to interview three coaches to see who
was the best fit for me and my business. I could have interviewed
more if I didn't like the first three. However, I settled on the
one that was high-spirited and demanding because that's what I wanted
in a coach. It worked out quite well for me.
I broke some old patterns and ways of doing things that consistently
presented the outcome that I did not want to happen. I started a
new invention and grew one of my two companies to million dollar
revenues while dissolving the other. (Too many ideas going at once
dilute your efforts at the thing you want to do most.) I did not
look at coaching as long term as I just needed a nudge to get going
on a new idea, organize myself better, launch a new product, and
get my team together and that meant cleaning out 90% of the team
and starting a new one which I now adore.
My coach presented me with tasks and exercises that I had to complete
each week. It proved to be challenging running two businesses and
getting my homework done but it all worked out in the end.
It was well worth the time and money spent and I would do it again
in any instance where I needed more mentoring and support to get
over a hump.
I guess what I'm saying is you can't go wrong with the Coach Connection
because even if you don't like it you can get your money back. It
worked for me and I don't have one thing bad to say about their
service.

I liked the fact that I didn't have to
go searching for a coach in a trial & error method.
By telling you what I needed, I felt that you would find a selection
of appropriate coaches that fit my needs. Since I had no experience
in this search, I think it was less stress on me to screw up whom
I picked since you were able to narrow my population without the
fear of "I must pick one from the group". I always felt
that if I did not find a perfect fit that I was going to be presented
with other choices. I also liked the fact that since it was an unknown

My name is Shirley Meek-Williams. Although I have not had the pleasure
of meeting you, I feel like I have met a kindred spirit! I am 55
years old, hold a graduate degree in counseling and am about to
embark on a life coaching career with an emphasis on ADD as soon
as I can determine which school or program is right for me. And,
though that’s not the reason for this letter, any recommendations
will be greatly appreciated.
When I was 23 years old, one of my college class requirements was
to find something in nature which represented me. I remember one
lady in the class who brought in a broken twig. Her husband had
just died. It didn’t take me any time to find "me"
out there. I was the sweet-gum ball. If you are familiar with it,
it is round and goes in all directions. I explained to the class
that it was me because I was always going in different directions.
Little did I know, at the time, I was explaining the brain chemistry
of an ADD person! Since then, I have also raised a highly creative
ADD son and gone through many struggles with him and at-risk behavior.
He is a musician and presently is producing music in his small studio
at home.
I spent most of my working years in the school system, working with
ADD students. Being ADD, parenting an ADD son, and ADD being a significant
part of my job ..well, let me just say, it has been a big part of
my life. My youngest son just graduated from high school and it
is now time for me to focus on me, believe it or not!!!! ADD coaching
is exactly what I want to do. I don’t have to look for a niche…I
already know what it is.
I cannot tell you how many article and books I have read on the
topic of ADD. I know it like the back of my hand. Parent conferences
were like a broken record. I already knew what they were going to
say before they ever walked through my office door. But what I can
tell you is that, this morning, when perusing the web and looking
for information about coaching schools, I came across the very best
article I have ever read on ADD. It was your article, ADD: Blessing
or Disorder. I can tell you that reading that article blessed me
beyond words. It is SO well written and so easy to understand, not
medically induced, perfect for the layman. I love the approach and
I love the perspective and the way you describe ADD. I have never
read one quite like it. In fact, if I could paint a picture, I would
tell you that I turned into a soft, white pillow when reading it.
I felt like I had come HOME!!!! It had my name written all over
it.
One thing I do not like, nor does my 24 year old ADD son, is for
someone to read to me. But this was different. I immediately picked
up the phone and told him, “Just give me a minute..I want to
read something to you”. I started to read, and for the first
time that I can ever remember, he allowed me to read an entire article
over the phone. Not only that, but a couple of times, he asked me
to go back and re-read a sentence.
I just want to thank you for this article. It hit home with both
of us. He has actually called me, since I began typing this, and
asked me if I would make him a copy of the article!!!. I told him
I was writing you a letter to let you know how much we both appreciated
it. You have been such a blessing to someone you don’t even
know. My prayer is that God blesses you because of it. You answered
your own premise in the article title!!!
