A "Coachable Goal" is:

A future place you want to be that requires you to grow
and improve as a person to achieve it.

Your goal is a Future Place You Want to Be. This means you have chosen to move your life to a different place than where you are today. You always focus on where you want to go, not where you are leaving.

You will also become a Better Person in order to reach the new future place of your Coachable Goal. You will uncover the mystery of YOU. You will learn what really makes you tick, what your inner motivations, passions, desires, and priorities are. You will uncover your true beliefs and values. You will also discover what you do not want to do.

Your Coachable Goal will allow you to PROSPER because because YOU WILL ENJOY doing what you love to do, avoid what you dislike to do, and you will allowed to be the person you really are. You will thrive by being your true self.

There are generally three coaching stages to discover then get your "Ideal Income Position". They are usually accomplished in order, but the second and third stages can be combined.

The First Stage of career coaching to discover and get your "Ideal Income Position"

The first stage of career coaching will be the Discovery Stage. During the Discovery Stage your career coach will ask you open ended questions to assist you to reveal to your coach AND to YOU:

  • Your True Passions. These include the passions you know about, the ones you suspect and the ones that have been hiding within you, but have not been allowed out for your recognition and acceptance.
  • Your True Priorities and Desires. These include where your work goals and actions, where your family goals and actions and where your personal goals and actions fit together in the importance to YOU and ONLY YOU!! You will gain a much clearer picture of what really means the most to you and why.
  • Your Beliefs and Values. Some people refer to these as the elements of spirituality. These include your integrity, your moral code of ethics and your relationship with God.
  • Your True Talents. These include the talents you know about, the talents you suspect you have, and those talents that have been hidden and suppressed within you.
  • Your True Self-imposed Obstacles. These include the things in life that you just do not want to do. They can be considered the opposite of your passions. Everyone has such obstacles. It is OK to have them and very important to know what they are, so you do not allow yourself to be in a place where you have to do them repeatedly to succeed.

Once you and your career coach discover these many very important factors, about who you really are, you will become "The Worlds Leading Expert on YOU!"

This is the most important stage. This is where the power and wonderful results from coaching are generated. This stage normally takes the most amount of time (approximately two thirds of the entire process)

The Second Stage of career coaching to discover and get your "Ideal Income Position"

The next stage is for you and your coach to design, build, develop, and/or find the position (or positions) to SUIT YOU! This way you create the position around you. This is a complete switch from the normal way people select their work positions (normally jobs). Most people focus on the jobs (and rarely themselves). Far too many people pick their work positions, or fall into their work positions by using the Trial and Error method of selection. Then they ADJUST to the jobs to suit their bosses, and/or the corporation, with little, if any concern for themselves.

But now you will be building the position and the environment in which you work around YOU. This is the creative stage.

The Final Stage of life Coaching to Get Your "Ideal Income Position"

The final stage is that your coach will assist you to take the steps to actually attain (be in) your "Ideal Income Position" This is the completion stage, the execution stage. Through career coaching, this will normally be the easiest and fastest stage, because you will know exactly what you want to do and why. You will focus on attaining it, with little, if any diversions or distractions by other "opportunities."

You and your coach will organize the coaching process to fit your unique personal characteristics, to fit the amount of effort you put into it, to fit your pace in doing so, and to fit your unique circumstances.

There is Nothing Wrong with You or Where You Work!

If you are performing in a work position that you don't like, or causes you stress, or leaves you empty, or leaves you unfulfilled, there is nothing wrong with you or the place where you work. You are just the wrong person at the wrong place at the wrong time.

You are the wrong shaped peg in a square hole. But you do not know what your true shape is, because you have been trying so hard to conform to the square hole of your job. Then the job changed to a rectangle and you adjusted to the new shape, and the pattern continues. You end up having adjusted so much, that you do not even resemble what your true (unknown) shape is. You then feel very much out of place.

The secret is to look at you first to discover who you are and what you really want (what peg shape your truly are). Then design or find the position to fit you. Your career coach will focus totally on YOU, to assist you to sort through all of your confusion and discover the true you.

Motherhood is a very special time sensitive profession.

I believe that being a mother is the most important profession there is. I believe that Motherhood is highly underrated and not respected for how difficult it is to be a successful mother. It is normally a non-income position that has all of the attributes of work. However, the activities of Motherhood are very uniquely time sensitive. The required intensity and amount of effort, activity, and mental alertness diminishes, as children grow older. The demands on mothers are constant and very intense at the beginning, because newborn babies demand and need constant attention, care, and feeding. But, as their children grow older the types of demands on mothers change and require less effort and time.

Mothers will face the empty nest condition.

When the youngest child goes to school for the first time, mothers find themselves with a very unusual and refreshing experience: Free Time, normally devoid of demands or pressures. But this free time can soon become a burden, if not handled in a way that best suits the mother. This condition can also be called a mid-life crisis. On the surface it can be a scary thought of what to do next.

Why do so many businesses fail?

Many people dream of starting their own business, especially in The US and Canada. The entrepreneurial spirit is strong and popular. Many people are attracted to the power of being their own boss and making money by operating in a field that they really love. Approximately 2,000,000 businesses are started each year in the US. Yet, over 800,000 of these businesses will not finish the first year and over 1,800,000 will not finish year three.

These business failures do not have to happen. Too many entrepreneurs feel an obligation to go it alone. Entrepreneurs are independent people who have an inner drive to accomplish THEIR own dreams. The growth of the business depends on the owner

The growth and success of businesses are dependent upon the growth and improvement of the owners. As the head goes (the owner) so goes the body (the business). There are basic functions every business must perform to succeed. These functions include: product development or acquisition, marketing of the products or services, sales of the products or services, delivery of the products or services, collections and accountability of moneys, hiring and organizing employees, managing the day to day operations of the business, data collection and record keeping, establishing and managing communications with customers and business team members, setting and leading the business towards visionary objectives, etc. The responsibility of making sure these functions are completed at the right time and in the best manner for the business falls completely on the owner. If the owner does not do his or her job to make sure all of the needed business functions are completed, then the business will falter.

Why do so many businesses fail?

Statistics have proven that over 40% of all start up businesses in the US will not make it through their first year, 90% will not reach the end of year three, and 98% will fail to complete five years of operations. Why do so many businesses fail or suffer, when they do not have to?

  • Because owners try to do all of the functions themselves. It is very rare that any one person can perform all of the needed business functions alone, and at the level needed for the business to succeed.
  • Because owners do not tend to the needs of the business, but focus on problems outside of the business caused by the competition, the economy, suppliers, etc.
  • Because owners fail to recognize that the true source of power for the business to succeed (or fail) is their own growth.

Yet, entrepreneurs and business owners are told by virtually all of the business books and Gurus to do most everything themselves. It appears that the business of advising others may be more profitable than using the advice given.

Owners who create their businesses around themselves run successful businesses. They make sure all of the needed business functions are performed properly and on time. But, these owners do not even try to perform them all by themselves. They select the functions they really enjoy, and those they excel at completing to handle themselves. Yet, the transition into retirement is rarely given the planning or thought it deserves. People are led to believe that retirement is a form of paradise that will provide full retirement for the rest of their lives.

Why do so many people become disappointed with retirement?

Unfortunately, far too many people discover that retirement did not become the satisfying, or even enjoyable new life that they had expected. They become disillusioned and disappointed. Why do people become so disappointed with their life after retirement? They do not recognize, consider or accept the very dramatic changes that occur to them with retirement. Retirement creates a change in people’s identity and status. They are no longer the manager, or sales person, or operator, or the important person at work they once were. They lose much of their sense of worth, because they are no longer needed, because they are no longer able to participate in work achievements and team activities. They have been replaced! Their social circles will normally change, because people rarely understand the influence their work life and routines have on their social life. Their feelings of camaraderie, and the social interactions with their coworkers and customers will be lost. Even many of the after work hours social functions, like sports teams, Bar-B Queue's, etc. will change or be lost. Their normal conversations with others will change, especially if work related topics dominated thoughts and interactions within social gatherings. Retirees will rarely be included in conversations about work related matters, because they are no longer involved in work.

The retirement illusion

There is an illusion that all problems and stresses related to working life will be solved upon retirement. Sure, many of the work related problems, like bad bosses, bad commutes, bad working conditions, etc., will be resolved by going into retirement. But the other benefits of working life will also be lost. Unfortunately, in their haste to escape the bad things of work, many people overlook the many good aspects of work that they will also lose. The truth is that retirement is very different and people must discover, then follow, their own very unique path that is best for them to reap the full rewards of retirement. Unfortunately, the last place retirees look to achieve retirement success (on their own unique terms) is within themselves.

You control the degree of your retirement enjoyment and prosperity.

The success of the transition into retirement is dependent upon your growth and improvement, and your ability to completely design and create your retirement to suit your very personal and unique desires, talents and needs. The beauty of retirement is the powerful control you have over designing your retirement. Retirement normally provides retirees considerable time to devote to newly discovered pleasures and desires, and enough financial resources to be able to enjoy the free time. You have ultimate control over almost every aspect of retirement. But, you do not have the time or energy to use the normal trial and error method to test and probe various aspects of retirement, before you find what you really want to do and be. You will most likely want to set up your retirement right the first time. The clock is ticking.

Retirees forget to consider the true importance of themselves

Unfortunately, retirees rarely consider that the most important person and asset of their retirement are themselves. It is not selfish for the retirees to design and build their retirement completely around their own personal desires, passions, talents, and self imposed obstacles. This does not mean that the retirees will ignore their mates. I means that they will replace their working time and effort with the life that will bring them joy and pleasure on their own terms (to include their mate if they wish) so they will have the energy and peace of mind to be a great mate themselves. This way they eliminate the grumpy factor, of having an unhappy sour person show up after retirement.

Using a career coach to lose weight has been very successful, many times as a last resort method. If you have physical or psychological issues that require medical attention, we strongly recommend that you consult your physician, before you engage a coach to lose weight. However, if you feel that you have tried every diet and other weight loss program without success, you might want to consider using a career coach who specializes in weight loss.

When you accomplish the coachable goal of losing weight you will:

  • Discover what your true passions, desires, and priorities are with respect to your weight situation.
  • Discover where weight loss fits into YOUR priorities of life.

How can talking to a career coach over the phone assist you to lose weight and keep it off, if the other more hands on methods were not successful? Your career coach will focus completely on you, and what motivates you. You will first discover your passions, priorities, and desires, spirituality, talents and self-imposed obstacles. Then you will discover if losing weight is really what YOU want to do. And you will discover WHY (for what purpose) YOU want to lose weight. These will be YOUR own reasons, as opposed to losing weight to satisfy the "should’s" of others. The physical formula for weight loss.

The physical components of reducing weight by a human being are not complicated. In essence, people have to expend more energy (calories) through exercise than the quantity of calories they convert by processing the food they consume. Continuing this formula on a steady basis will cause the body to tap into the calorie reserves (fat) to provide the additional energy (calories) needed to provide fuel to the body during the exercise. The reduction of the calorie reserves will reduce the fat content and weight of the body. The basic prescription for weight loss is to exercise more and eat less.

Put your weight loss into your own perspective.

You will put your weight loss into your own peace of mind perspective. This alone will improve your internal will and strength to take the weight loss actions you want and need on your own terms when no one else is around.

This will also allow you to consider the possibility that losing weight does not rate as high on your own priority scale as you had previously thought. So you will be able to organize your weight loss goals and actions within your own personal internal priorities, to free you up with the guilt and self defeating false disappointment, because you did not meet the weight loss goals imposed on you by others. You will be comfortable in your own skin and devise the plan to reduce your weight because it suits you.

Design your lifestyle to include losing weight.

Then you and your coach will devise a new lifestyle and program of living that will allow you to operate without guilt and the negative pull from the should’s of others. If you still place weight loss at a very high priority, your program will involve the reduction of the amount of calories you consume on a regular basis and will involve the increase of your physical exercise to burn off more calories. Your career coach will be your equal partner teammate who will keep you focused on the purpose you chose to lose weight, so that the weight loss becomes a part of you achieving your purpose.

A sample reason to lose weight.

For example you may decide that you really want to improve your tennis game, and that losing 50 pounds will boost your tennis prowess considerably. The real goal is to improve at tennis. With your coach, you will probably want to focus on playing more tennis (increasing exercise), and use the internal motivation to reduce your food intake, because you know it will fulfill your own personal priority to play better tennis.

The false need to get into shape.

Many people feel a need (normally imposed on them by others) to get into better shape. Getting into shape is not an easy thing to do. There are many different types of physical shape, based upon the various reasons for being in shape. For example, getting in shape to run a marathon is much different than getting in shape to play football. One requires reducing the body of unwanted fat and even muscle, to increase long-term cardiovascular endurance, without the need for short burst of speed. The other requires gaining high levels of muscular strength, muscular mass, and explosive power for very short busts of speed. What a difference! The person getting into shape has to know what he or she intends to do with their newfound physical shape to be sure it fits the end goal. This is the same process that people will want to use to lose weight. Losing weight for no other purpose than to lose weight has not proven to be a very effective process.

14. Discover if becoming a career coach is right for you, then become a successful one.

Many people are drawn to the profession of career coaching. It is estimated that from 6,000 to over 10,000 people each year enter the career coaching field in one way or another. We at The Coach Connection recommend becoming a professional career coach, if doing so will place you in your ideal income position. We will be using the term career coach to encompass all forms of life related coaching, to include business, career, transition, executive, ADD, leadership, life and other such coaches. We do NOT consider career coaching to include sports coaching, coaching subordinates, coaching close friends or close family, or coaching other employees within the same corporation (internal coaching).

Not everybody will be well suited to becoming a successful career coach. Unfortunately, the approximately 165 for profit coach training schools have become very adept at selling the coaching profession to anyone who will listen in order to collect their training fees. The number of specialized For Profit coach training schools has exploded from less than 11 in 1998 to over 165 today, due to the remarkable profits they reap from selling career coach training. If you used any of the major search engines in your quest to find a coach for you, you undoubtedly had to wade through countless advertisements from coach training schools.

The real purpose of this unique coachable goal.

Consequently this coachable goal focuses FIRST on discovering your ideal income position without any restrictions or prearranged agenda (for example that becoming a career coach will be the end result). If you discover that becoming a career coach is your eventual ideal income position, you will be able to march right on and get it done with your coach. If you discover that your ideal income position is to become something other than a professional career coach, you will also be ahead of the game. You will once again continue on to successfully attain your chosen non-coaching ideal income position.
